Megan
patient-artist, age 17
It's hard for Megan to describe what it’s like to be a cancer survivor. That's because ever since before she can remember, she's been visiting her doctors at Roswell Park.
Megan was diagnosed with a Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumor (PNET) when she was only 21 months old. At that time, doctors told Megan's family that this diagnosis carried with it only a 10% chance of survival. After surgery, seven weeks of radiation and 54 weeks of inpatient chemotherapy, followed by years of follow-up doctor visits, Megan has finally been given a clean bill of health. Now focused on helping others who are currently battling cancer, Megan has decided to continue drawing for The Paint Box Project (something she's been doing since she was four years old!).
"Megan gives 100% to everything," says her mom, Kathy. "She doesn't see limitations; she sees possibilities." One of the most exciting possibilities for Megan is the opportunity to attend college to become a radiologist. "I want to give patients hope," says Megan, "because I’m living proof that it is possible to survive cancer - even when the odds are stacked against you."
